In 1953 a man named Harold Bates from Great Britain claimed to have solved the oil crisis from the blockage of the Suez canal, by harvesting the Methane from chicken poop. According to Bates it was a success and others have since updated the original technology to make it more practical. However his enthusiasm didn’t catch on and eventually the oil valves were turned back on and it was business as usual for another half century.

Now it’s 2009 and we saw the volatility of oil prices in 2008 so what’s been on my mind is energy independence. Using and re-using all the available resources we have in our own cycle of living. Wind power on the Micro level, solar panels and other passive energy systems have really caught my interest and I hope it catches on further as it becomes more affordable.

So in the spirit of American Independence and some old fashioned English tenacity we hope to eliminate K-9 waste from entering not just rivers, streams and groundwater but also landfills. It is possible to turn this energy rich source of waste from pathogenic pollutant to a clean burning fuel for vehicles, or local power generation.

We will be updating the blog regularly with any related news on how this process will manifest from an idea to a tangible creation that can benefit everyone. Please stick around and leave us your comments or questions at info@doodybros.com. We’re excited about the future of alternative fuel sources and grateful for your support!

Best Regards,
The Doody Bros,

Did you know that 20-30% of all polutants in waterways can be attributed to dog waste? Dog poop is a major source of pathogenic polluters to our water tables, lakes, streams and rivers. Almost 4 million pounds of dog waste is NOT picked up every year. In addition what is picked up is then put into plastic bags, most of which are petroleum based and non-renewable. Plastics have a recycle rate of about 6.9%. Of 29.5 million tons of plastic waste produced by Americans in 2006 only 2.04 tons were recycled. With this in mind The Doody Bros have signed up as a professional partner with Poopbags.com. We will no longer be sending a plastic, pathogenic poop time capsule to our landfills for future generations. These bags are made from corn and other biodegradable products that will decompose in 30-90 days! However we’re still not happy with sending the waste to landfills when it could be re-diverted and used as methane fuel for homes and cars. Keep checking in as we will be updating our blog with progress on the prototype of an anaerobic digester that will passively harvest the methane produced when decomposing dog waste and other bio-waste!

Laurie Ridgeway and our Doody buddies at Grand Illusions Farms are retiring to greener pastures in the Central Coast. It can be said that this one BIG job alone (23-27 horses) done 3 days a week requiring a lot of sweat equity for the past 9-10 months or so has floated the Doody Brothers and helped prepare us to be #1 in the #2 business. Thanks again for all your support Laurie! We’ll miss the mishceivious Alante, the colts and mares, si-si (can we still use her in the fair next year?) and of course the dogs, Runt, Dozer, Wyatt and Princess (RIP). Call us if there’s an emergency! 1-800-DOG POOP.

This was probrably the highpoint of events for us this summer out of all of our events we participated and volunteered in. The guys from the Elks Lodge were our biggest fans because we took over their Poop obligations. Thanks guys!!! We had heaps of support from the audience and the Poop humor was AAA Grade. At one point we stopped in front of Watermark and Mike was taken by surprise by a woman with a microphone and a camera from Public Access, CAPS-TV. Keep an eye out for us next year in our Methane Powered Vehicle!

The theme was it’s hip to snip and they did a great job bringing a big crowd out to support the cause. We volunteered and helped with the public awareness and with setting up the day of the event and don’t forget about keeping the bike path Poo-Free. The day turned out to be a huge hit. We met alot of really creative dog owners and business owners and we’re looking forward to next year.

The 3rd annual Oak View Memorial Parade was a poop extravaganza. We had such a great time with this. Unfortunately Mike couldn’t make it for this one. Filling Mike’s shoes was his girlfriend Devin (much cuter than Mike), on the right, and her cousin Erin. They were honorary Doody Sisters for the day (maybe permanent honorary status soon). They handed out Tootsie Rolls with our cards attached along the parade route. We cleaned up goat poop, llama poop and horse poop! It was zoological poop scooping study for me.

Joel from the http://ojaiandventuraview.com/ was there snapping photos. You can see us towards the middle of the June issue. Mike’s girlfriend was on the cover of Vol. 1 Issue. 1. She has her own dance troop called The Pin Down Girls and she teaches a sexy sculpting class Tues & Thurs night at the Livery Theatre. Check her out at her myspace.

The crowd loved it and we even got a trophy for The Most Imaginative! Go Doody Brothers and Sisters!
